Separate phone use from shared use
Maps, messages and light browsing are not the same as video calls, cloud sync or large downloads on a laptop. Estimate the shared device separately.
Unlimited phone data does not automatically mean unlimited tethering. Look for a daily cap, speed limit or a plan that disables sharing.
Reduce avoidable drain
If work is essential, keep a second connection or identify a reliable Wi-Fi fallback before you leave.
- Pause photo and system backups until Wi-Fi is available.
- Use lower video quality for a long work session.
- Carry a cable and a power bank; hotspot use is both a data and battery decision.
